Back to back Calvert second place finishes and a rant.

Yes I said back to back Calvert Second place finishes. The Pourhouse in Pottstown and Montana West in Quakertown. Two nights of Calvert running sick.
If you read this carefully I did not say i ran second back to back, I just said back to back Calvert second place finishes. I came in second at the Pourhouse on Wednesday and my brother finished second at Montana West (Congrats Mike, hope the 25 bucks multiplied at sands). I did final table I came in second. Mike ran real well last night. I was running well but not great but then this Uber Donk was moved to my table and it was just frustrating as hell almost to the point that i almost got up and left for the night.
here is the rule that caused the problem last night.
LEAVING EARLY
22. Any player still in the game with chips, who cannot continue, will have his chips forfeited, and removed from the game. At no time will any player distribute their chips among other players because of their inability to finish the game. If you are planning on leaving the tournament, be courteous to other players who still wish to play. Going all-in on every hand until you lose is allowed, but is not in the best interest of the game. Let the remaining players play normally and simply remove yourself and the chips from the tournament. If you have to leave the venue for a short period of time, you must contact the TD to make them aware. If due to a lengthy absence your chips have been removed from play, you will have no recourse. In the interest of fairness, the TD has discretion over the length of time a player may be absent and still participate in the tournament.
There was a Guy whom apparently frequents the Montana West game about once a month that needs to read the above stated rule. Yes you CAN atempt to give away your chips by calling or going all in with nothing. But as the rule states “Going all-in on every hand until you lose is allowed, but is not in the best interest of the game.” It is totally not in the best interest of the game or even that fair to all the others in the game. Most of the players are there to play some cards and to have a fun evening. Shoving every hand and begging players to come along so that you can go home is just wrong and disruptive to the game. Yes some one with a killer start hand can get paid off if they have the balls to call any two random cards. On the other hand it can just as easily cripple a good player by catching cards on the flop. I feel that this rule should be if any one makes it known to anyone that they want or need to leave. Any other player should be able to notify the TD and have them ask the player inquestion if they need or wish to leave. I feel that this would put that player on the spot. Either they would knock it off and play or say yes i need to leave and the TD would collect the chips and a normal game could continue. I think that if I am poised with situation again i will inform Tim the TD of what is going on so that normal poker play can be restored faster.

Another big issue that Riverchasers seams to have is their rule on showing cards on a showdown. here is the rule 15 A. At Showdown – In an effort to promote fair play, when there is any hand called by only two players, both players must show their cards. The best hand pursuant to the rules of the game win the pot. A winning hand consists of two visible cards, face up. If there are multiple players involved in a showdown, any player attempting to muck a losing hand may do so but other players at the table may request that the hand be shown. If a hand went to a showdown and is requested to be shown, it must.
I know this is not all that normal, but its the breaks. I think it should be stated at the start of all RCT’s so that all are clear about the rules.

On another note I will be In AC this week i hope to play some poker down there and bring home some extra cash.

Great Showing at the pourhouse’s premiere event

The Riverchasers event is back at the Pourhouse in Pottstown PA. The premier event was last night the 8th of july. I live in pottstown I would have to say about 2 miles or less away. So it was a no brainer to go play at this event. I was When i got there i thought it was going to be a one or two table night. By the time the game settled in there were four full tables. I was a bit put off that some random people who showed up decided to play. they were a bit shaky on the rules. like that your cards and chip had to stay in plain site. and that a straight can not wrap around like past the ace back to the 3. But the they had played some poker before so they had an clue about most of the rules. I knew with random people playing at my table I was going to have to play very tight (that’s what she said) poker. There was an older man at my table who played 98% of the hands and was not the greatest at hiding his cards. More than a few times i happen to see his cards. NOW I WANT TO MAKE THIS CLEAR. I never once used that info to my advantage. I only happen to see his cards if I was out of the hand and studying the table for tells and leaks. On like the 5th had of the event i woke up with pocket aces on the button. blinds were 1 and 2 i bet 30 in an atempt to pull it down right there, I find pocket aces a curse not a blessing. This is even more evident at a free event such as a RC event, where people put no value on winning just to have fun. i was shocked to get 3 callers. i checked the river to try to look week. the turn checks to me so I feel that flop and turn did not warrant any fear so i bet 15 two callers. river is another blank and the board had not paired so i bet out 25 and get the same two callers. i take it down. I then felt good about the night.
I started to get blinded down and then caught aces again and one. not as many callers but it gave me like 10 more blinds so not short stacked. so i go into waiting mode. One by One the fish bust and then the magic starts to happen two people go out at the other table and its now a final table and I am in the points. Yes i care about the points. If i can run like this 2 to 4 times a week i can get my name up the list. and maybe start to make a run at becoming a semi pro. I am the short stack at this point or one of them. I noticed how loose two of the fish to my right are playing. getting the feeling that they are getting tired and DRUNK so i feel its time to get a good hand a capitalize. I wake up with Aces for the 3rd time again. i just check my blind i feel i want to try to trap. so the flop was 10 10 A. I knew i had them so i just kept feeding them rope to hang them selfs. until river where i shoved. No one had a better hand and i could tell. they Both called and i took down a monster pot. I think i quinto upped on that hand. I was pumped about that. then those two drunk dudes were on tilt a bit and gave up. so the guy two my left took them down one or two pots latter. there were now like 5 left. I started to catch cards as did the guy to my right. so we were both pulling down pots. then it was down to 3. so i was in the “money” i use quotes because second and 3rd are gift cards to the bar. I kinda go back to Über tight aggressive style. (that is when you play premium hands but play them aggressive(for someone who hates lingo)). The guy to my left takes her down and now its me and him and i am about 50% of his stack.
I for get to mention that when it got down to 4 Tim the TD started to deal to move things along faster. and we all started chatting with each other and Tim. the guy to my right who’s name escapes me at the moment but me and names do not mix. Any how in that conversation we talked about the team heads up game coming up and the guy to my left states that heads up is not his best part of the game. I took advantage of this and played very loose. and Had taken the chip lead and lost it and took it back. We we pushed the chips back and forth for a while as we chatted. I caught a open ender so i shove hoping that he will see the straight draw and fold. he called with a pair and my straight busted and he all but crippled me. next hand i had the blinds and 175 more. blinds were 400 and 600 so i am shoving with any two cards. i shove and he has me beat but we ended up chopping the pot. next hand i shove again and he took me down. I played some of the best poker i have ever played in my life last night. I was very happy that i could out last the fish. even laying down some premium hands like AK. I had a total blast and will be playing there as often as I can. If i can do as well tonight at montana west I would be great. I know have 20 points from a final table, a 3rd place and a second, I would love to get a first. But more than that i want the points to get invited into the TOC for the quarter.

I wrote yesterday that it dawned on me that i had been employed 18 years with out a break. I thought this was a feat and something i should be proud of to a point. but from talking to people it seams rather insignificant to people. Why is this? Is it due to the fact that i do not have a job that pays at or above the median income for PA. Lets just say its not even that close i would need to double up what i make for the most part to get there. Is it i have not had the same job or in the same company for the whole 18 years. Or is it just not that big of a deal?
I say its partly due two the first and last reason. Its a big deal to me that i have worked that long because my resume does not scream hire me i am perfect. In fact it barley speaks at all. I do not have anything impressive on there so I just do not stand out. I am average at best. I know some will read this and say that I am being negative. It seams that way because do tend to heavily lean that way but in this case i do not mean it as a negative thing just a fact. I do not have outstanding skills or experience in any job title i have had. I do not have achievements that make me stand out. What i do have and a resume has no real way of showing this is that i will be there no matter how i feel about what I am doing. I show up on time or early. I will stay late if needed. I will not like it and complain about it to loved ones but ill do it. i might not be out there pushing the company forward but I am there to make sure it works. I feel its like sports in a way. there is that guy who can make fancy dunks but regardless of how fancy that dunk is, it is still only worth two points. There is also the guy who scores a bunch of points. I on the other hand am the guy who scores 10 points a game every game day in and day out and when the team wins by ten points it was my ten points that won the game but the star gets all the credit. I am ok with that I am not here to show off. If it were base ball im that guy that gets on base almost every game just to have the star who bats after me hit a home run. I pad his stats. while flying under the radar with the fans and the press. I was the 2nd run in the two run Homer that won the game. I am the guy who lives in the shadow of others. Would i like to step out of that shadow? I guess i would like to have my cliché 15 minutes of fame or moment in the sun. But I know that there needs to be that person or people who back up the star otherwise the star cant shine.
The other reason is that its just not that big of a deal. Most people work from the time they are able to until they retire. Why should I feel special that i have been working more than half my life. I see the point. I may just be looking for something to hold on to so that i can cary on and attempt yet again to begin to move forward. My point in mentioning that i worked for 18 years with no layoffs time off or getting fired is that even though i complain about work I go to work and do what I feel needs to be done. Im not out there to impress people i just want to be able to enjoy the time i have to myself and with my loved ones.
I think one of the things that makes me different form other people is the fact that i try not to hide my emotions. If I am stressing i make it known that I am stressed, the same for anger and fear. I do not repress these thoughts and feelings because I feel that it is not good for you to keep hurt, pain, fear inside. You let them out and then they are gone. they may come back and even at times almost every day they come back but if you push them down and out of the way you are becoming less human in a way. What i mean is if you never show you emotion you start to become robot like.
When my two nephews are angry at each other they make it clear what is going on and either fight or cry or what have you but its out and done rather quickly.
Grown ups don’t do this and i feel its wrong. If we basically said I am mad at you and this is why, things would be better, i feel. I think many wars have started this way. a bunch of rather insignificant (in the big picture) things between two parties build up into a huge problem and it blows up. where as if they were to have just made it clear that xyz are bugging me and talking about it they hold that grudge and more and more annoys each other and then bam big problems.
I would much rather know some one hates me then to have them secretly hate me behind closed doors. That way i can avoid dealing with them or try to figure out why they hate me.

I have been running real bad at full tilt for a month or so now. just getting crushed on the cash games. mind you i only play .01/.02 NLHE but i have been bleeding money left and right. Yesterday started that way as well blew a buck in a matter of minutes in a capped nl game. so I buy back in for two bucks and im up and down then I just started to crush I ended up making around 4 bucks online yesterday. I know i know who cares. but im trying to take the small bank roll i have and make it big like chris ferguson did with nothing to ten grand.
I also play in free tournaments from a company called river chasers. I decided to play in new location to make it two nights a week. there is a place close to my house so i figured id play there. first off the noise level was way better as was the music. Plus no cover charge so that was good. they had way more people there i think 6 full tables. were as Montana west only plays 3 almost full tables.
Any how just like all river chasers events you have a ton of Donks (people who raise big and play too many pots) and fishes (people who are just bad players) So i might have folded a few good hands to feel out the room. I would catch a decent pocket pair and get crappy flops. I had a feeling it was not going to be my night. I folded hands that would have won but because of some odd betting mostly from the two players to my left I was force to fold i could not risk a marginally good hand to these maniacs. my chips are dwindling down I have 145 left so still more than half my starting stack left. So maybe the move i made was unwise. I had KJ off on the SB. a few fold first into the pot bets 30 Since its the first face cards i have had in a while i call. the flop comes Ah Qd Xd women checks and i check. The turn is Kd she checks. I have pair and a inside straight draw so I go all in. for 115 she thinks for a good 2 min. and says she has to call i hate that.
we flip she shows Ad 8h so i have 4 outs a king or any 10 other than 10d. river is a Blank ending my night. I did not win a hand or steal a pot. But I dont feel i played bad poker just got hit with the deck all night. well I hope thursday is better and next week i might try 4 nights in a row. monday though thursday. but i might be told otherwise.
